What is HypnoBirthing?
($500) Add On
HypnoBirthing is a rewarding, relaxing and empowering set of tools and techniques that prepares a birthing couple (or birthing woman and her birth partner) – physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – for an easier, more comfortable and, sometimes even, pain-free birth. Through a well-thought-out programme of deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, special breathing techniques, visualisations, affirmations, and education, HypnoBirthing returns to a woman the art of birthing in a way that allows her to summon her natural birthing instincts and to birth her baby safely and with ease.
You will gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in perfect harmony–as they were designed to–when your body is sufficiently relaxed and you trust birth. You will learn how to achieve this kind of relaxation, free of the resistance that fear creates, and you will learn to use your natural birthing instincts. In this calm state, your body’s natural relaxant, endorphins, replaces the stress hormones that constrict and cause pain.

Is it for one type of birth?
Typically, HypnoBirthing has been associated with ‘natural’ vaginal births but it is not true that HypnoBirthing is for one type of birth only, it is for all birth. Whether you’re birthing freely, at home, in hospital, or have a planned or unplanned caesarean section, HypnoBirthing techniques will benefit you. They condition your mind and body to relax and ultimately can optimise your wellbeing and benefit your physical and mental health for life. HypnoBirthing techniques can also be used for early birth (miscarriage) and abortion as well.
That said, no one woman is physically or spiritually superior to be able to achieve a natural birth and every woman can have a natural, physiological birth if that is what she desires and in the absence of any special circumstances; it is your birth right. We just need to remove the fear and misconceptions about birth (which are stored in our subconscious minds often without us really being aware of them) so that the birthing body can work perfectly, as nature intended.
Birth is so much more than the physical act of getting a baby out, there is an emotional and spiritual aspect that far outweighs the physical. Taking a HypnoBirthing course with me prepares your mind, body and spirit to meet the big energy of birth and integrate that into your life in a connected and easeful way. Importantly, HypnoBirthing also educates you on all your options and rights, so that you are able to achieve autonomy through your own choices and feel in control of your own birth process.

The HypnoBirthing Advantage
1. Eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain cycle before, during and after birthing
2. Reduces, often eliminates, the need for chemical anaesthesia (pain relief), episiotomy (cut), and other interventions
3. Lessens fatigue during labour, leaving the mother fresh, awake and energised as she brings her baby into the world
4. Shortens the thinning and opening phase of labour by hours and allows the birthing mother to utilise the natural pulsations of her body to breathe her baby down to the crowning stage, rather than pushing for long, exhausting periods of time
5. Reduces risk of pelvic floor damage
6. Brings the mother, the baby and the birthing partner together in a wonderful prenatal, perinatal and postnatal bonding experience
7. The birthing partner is an integral part of the birthing experience, not an onlooker
8. Gentle birth leads to easier emotional and physical postpartum recovery
9. Babies are better adjusted and reported happier and calmer
10. Birthing is returned to the safe, beautiful experience that nature intended.
Two Prenatal Visits:
We will meet two times before your birth to build our relationship and discuss your preferences about labor and birth. We will also explore and discuss your priorities, fears or concerns, your birth plan and to plan how we might best work together. I also want to know your own best ways of coping with pain and fatigue and how you and your partner foresee working together.
Back-up Doula services:
Services will be provided in the very unlikely event of a schedule conflict or an unforeseen emergency for both the Birth Doula's Julie or Rachel arises. The fee will be paid to the Birth Doula and she will handle any payment to a back-up Doula. The Back-up Doula will be contracted by the Birth Doula in the event of a last minute conflict or emergency.
Continuous Labor Support:
By the time labor begins, we are a "well-oiled birth team machine". Please give me a "heads-up" when you think you are in labor. We will stay in close phone contact in early labor and then I will join you when you want my in-person support until the birth.
Immediate Postpartum:
I will stay with you 1-2 hours after baby is born to support you in initiating nursing (if desired) and ensure that you and your partner have food on the way.

Postpartum Follow-up Visit:
I will check in periodically in the days/weeks following the birth via text and phone calls. I typically stop by for a visit 1-2 weeks postpartum - whenever is convenient for you. We discuss the birth, feeding, postpartum care, etc.
As a doula, I do not:
-
Perform any clinical tasks, such as blood pressure, fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, and others. I am there to provide only physical comfort and emotional/informational support.
-
Make decisions for you. I will help you get the information necessary to make an informed decision. I will also remind you if there is a departure from your birth plan.
-
Speak to the staff on your behalf. I will discuss your concerns with you and suggest options, but you or your partner will speak directly to the clinical staff.
-
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience. I will support your decisions and the birth that YOU desire.
Crescent Package $1,300
My base package includes four home visits, two prenatal and two postpartum, for continuous care throughout the transition from pregnancy to breastfeeding and recovery. Each focuses on a separate aspect of preparation and adjustment.
-
First prenatal, week 30-33 – at our first visit, we will develop a birth plan to establish your preferences in various scenarios; discuss the difference between my role and your partner’s in supporting you; and review the birth process and target informational resources for your areas of interest.
-
Second prenatal, week 35-37 – Our second visit focuses on pain management, including hands-on comfort measures as well as review of your preferred relaxation tools.
-
24/7 phone and text contact until labor – whether you can’t sleep in the middle of the night at 38 weeks, or want me to listen to a contraction in early labor, I encourage you to call me any time.
-
Continuous support through active labor and birth – When your labor enters uncharted territory and you need to know everything’s okay, I arrive to remind you how amazing you are. My purpose is to attend exclusively to your needs and comfort.
-
Use of my TENS unit for pain relief
-
Optional birth photography – when I have a free hand, I will grab a camera and snap. I am not a substitute for a professional photographer, but I can often capture special moments over the course of your labor.
-
Early postpartum care and breastfeeding support.
-
Third home visit/lactation consultation, 3 to 4 days postpartum – the transition from pregnancy to breastfeeding is massive, with changes happening quickly in the first days after birth. Many dyads encounter issues soon after discharge, which I will help assess the comfort of your home. (Families who formula feed may dedicate this time to other postpartum care.)
-
Fourth home visit, 7 to 10 days postpartum – we follow up with breastfeeding and newborn care, and answer questions about your birth.
